In the heart of Dalmatia, halfway from Zadar to Šibenik, is located this bird watching capital of Croatia.
Vransko lake is the biggest natural lake in Croatia and it has numerous impressive sites to explore. One of them for sure is the ORNITHOLOGICAL RESERVE in the northern part of the nature park.

While breeding approximately 100 species of birds use the reserve. All together there are over 250 different species resting or just migrating on the Vransko lake area. Among all those species 13 of them are important for the stability of the entire population on national, European and even global level. They are: Purple Heron Ardea purpurea,

Great Egret Egretta alba,
Marsh Harrier Circus aeruginosus,

In Vransko lake area, each period of the year is good for bird watching, but spring and autumn have the highest variety of bird life. As for the time of the day, the best is to go bird watching at sunrise or sunset. In those periods birds are the most active.
